Apprenticeship and Training

History
IEC has been involved in the training of electrical workers since 1972 with over 53% of member companies currently training apprentices. The IEC curriculum, a Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training (BAT) approved program, is in use nationwide by nearly 4,500 apprentices. It was developed by member contractors and instructors currently involved in the education of electricians, with the assistance of a professional writing team. The 4-year curriculum is reviewed and updated on a regular basis in order to keep pace with technological advances and changes in the National Electrical Code.

IEC continues to strive for a better educated work force as evidenced by our Professional Electrician Program (PEP). In the final stages of development, this 2-year program is expected to be completed in the winter of 1996.

IEC's commitment to providing a quality work force for the year 2000 and beyond is reflected in its training, not only for the Apprentice and Journeyman, but also through our business and management training for the contractor and businessman. More importantly, they are given the skills for a lifelong career and not just a short term job.
