IEC CONTRACTOR MEMBERSHIP

Scaling Your Business & Advancing The Electrical Industry Together

Contractor Membership

The IEC Texas Gulf Coast Chapter is a progressive organization composed of electrical professionals. Consisting of 2,000+ journeyman electricians, associates, and engineers, as well as 200+ electrical contractors, the IEC has become the quality symbol for the Houston electrical industry.

Members of this organization actively support the education of their apprentices, journeymen, and master electricians, along with those in the industry who utilize their services. Serving as an instrumental tool in interacting with local, state, and national officials on legislation that has improved the industry as a whole, the IEC simultaneously creates a safer workplace environment for all of its employees, members, and students alike. It is the IEC’s Executive Director and Board of Directors’ objective to keep its members apprised of the electrical market’s perpetual development.

APPLICATION SERVICE - CONNECTING MEMBERS WITH EMPLOYEES

Let us take the application process off your plate!  Get a steady flow of job resumes from new and veteran employees that are looking to become part of your growing organization.  For those that are new to the industry, we not only take their application but assist them in getting their Apprenticeship License through TDLR.

EMPLOYMENT ADS

We place employment ads in local newspapers as well on our website and online when contractor members need to fill open positions.

APPRENTICESHIP & CONTINUING EDUCATIONAL TRAINING

Our Chapter has been training apprentices since 1972 and we have been continuously registered with the Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training.

In addition to getting apprentices registered with TDLR, we offer over 200 classes a year ranging from continuing education classes like Electrical License Renewal to Master's and Journeyman Exam Prep.

GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS, PUBLIC RELATIONS FOR IEC AND MEMBERS

IEC and its representatives are active in the City of Houston Electrical Board, C.I.C., NEC Code Panels, National Apprenticeship Curriculum Committee, and National Journeyman Curriculum Committee.  We lobby at local, state, and federal levels; and attend the IEC National Legislative Conferences in order to help drive policy that is critical to the industry and the Gulf Coast membership.  As a whole, our goal is to answer code and related electrical questions and general business questions from members.

THE SHARED MAN PROGRAM

THE PURPOSE
When a contractor has a surplus of good men he would like to keep when his work is slow, he can offer them to other contractors in the program on a shared basis. Notification can be made through the IEC office or directly to the contractor(s) in the program.

THE BENEFITS

The Home Firm maintains its nucleus of personnel without having to pay employees to sit at home. The Host Firm is able to find competent temporary help. The electrician does not lose time during a slow cycle at his Home Firm and the IEC members participating in the program will be able to maintain a more qualified work force.
